Friday August 28, 2026 – 4:44 AM Karachi, Pakistan The hum of my editing monitor is the only sound in the house right now. The rest of Karachi is completely dead silent, but my mind is still rendering scripts, tweaking timelines, and staring at visual cuts. Someone recently messaged me the exact math of my life—as of today, I’ve been alive for exactly 9,009 days. Hearing it broken down like that makes you stop, put down your coffee, and just stare at the wall. Nine thousand days. The first major chunk of that time was spent being protected by Ammi, safe from the world. I was tucked away inside a comfortable, Karachi bubble where I didn't have a single real responsibility. I was the textbook definition of a sheltered princess. I didn't know how to cook, I didn't know how to budget, and I let everyone do everything for me because it was easy. But then came 2024. The year the bubble burst in the best possible way. I still remember landing in Izmir for my IoBM exchange semester at Yaşar University. It was freezing, my hands were completely numb, and reality hit me like a physical blow. No one was cooking my meals. No one was picking up after me. Every single day was a puzzle of language barriers and figuring out public transit. I was terrified, but for the first time in my life, I felt completely awake. I learned how to survive on my own grit. When I came back, everything went into overdrive. Standing in front of the mic on the Chatri Podcast, I didn’t want to put on a fake, curated influencer persona. I just talked about the messiness of growing up, the student anxiety, and the spiritual shifts I went through. Seeing those clips go viral made me realize how many people needed to hear that it's okay to be a work in progress. Then came December 2025. Graduation. Throwing my cap in the air at IoBM felt like officially closing the book on my childhood. And now, here I am in August 2026. I am no longer just the student observing from the sidelines or the girl talking behind a podcast microphone. I am building things. I am an Associate Creative Producer and a Director. I stand on chaotic commercial sets, manage huge crews, and direct campaigns for major brands like Surf Excel. Navigating the corporate media landscape in Pakistan as a young woman takes thick skin, but the independence I found when I was alone in Turkey pays off every single day. My eyes are heavy, my back hurts from this chair, and my call time is in exactly four hours. But looking at the project files open on my screen right now, I smile. I broke my own mold. I built this life with my own hands, and I am exactly where I am supposed to be. Time to get some sleep.
