It has been a busy Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Karachi, with several significant developments ranging from political protests to infrastructure updates: Current Events & Protests • Road Closures: Major roads leading to the Karachi Press Club (KPC) have been blocked with containers today. This is a security measure taken by the police ahead of a planned protest by the PTI against rising fuel prices and inflation. • Petrol Price Relief: In a major move to counter inflation, the government has reduced petrol prices to 378 PKR per litre after cutting the petroleum levy by 80 PKR. Additionally, the Sindh government announced a 2,000 PKR fuel subsidy specifically for bikers. Law Enforcement & Security • NADRA Scandal: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested a NADRA official today in the Nursery area. He is allegedly involved in approving fake CNICs for Afghan nationals. Two Afghan men were also detained in a raid in the Metroville SITE area. Infrastructure & Weather • Road Construction: Mayor Murtaza Wahab recently laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 200 million reconstruction of Sehba Akhtar Road in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. This is part of a larger plan to rehabilitate major arteries like Rashid Minhas Road and University Road. • Weather Records: Karachi and other cities in Sindh have been setting new weather records for April this year. While recent rains caused some havoc earlier in the week, the current conditions are clear and humid. Current Weather in Karachi: It is currently 24°C and clear, with a low of 23°C expected tonight. The humidity is quite high at 74%.
