Vincentia. Deaf. 36. Cancer. May 17. God. That’s so much for one life to carry. Cancer affects Deaf people too, but I don’t hear it discussed much. Access to interpreters during oncology appointments, medical information in sign language, Deaf community support during chemo... it’s all more difficult. I don’t know what her last months were like. I don’t know if she had access, if her family signed, or if she was alone in that. Jakarta is loud, crowded, and massive. 16 million people. And somewhere in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on the 8th floor of Tabitha Ukrida, a Deaf woman’s life ended on May 17. She was Deaf. She had cancer. She died at 36. I’m alive. It’s May 17. Tomorrow is the 18th. That’s a lot to hold in one body.

Yours Sincerely,Anonymous
