Saturday, March 21, 2026 | 8:03 PM Location: Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi The first night of Eid has fully taken hold. The air is slightly cooler at 25°C, though the humidity remains a thick 77%. Looking out across the Johar blocks, the festive lights are a sharp contrast to the "Sombre Eid" headlines dominating the news today. The day began with rain disrupting Eid prayers, forcing many congregations from open grounds into mosques. We now know the full human cost of this week’s turbulence: 21 lives lost across Sindh due to the storms, and 9 people injured including the three children we’ve been tracking by the reckless celebratory firing on Chand Raat. There is a sense of "weathering the storm" in every sense of the word. While the immediate threat of heavy rain has subsided tonight (only a 5% chance), the city remains on high alert. Between the rising fuel prices squeezing delivery riders and the heavy infrastructure "reactivation" work in DHA Phase 6, the resilience of Karachi is being tested once again. Current Conditions: • Temperature: 25°C (Feels like 27°C) • Wind: 9 mph (West) • Sky: Partly cloudy and quiet. • Status: Public holiday in effect; security remains on high alert. I’m glad my coworker, Muskan is safe! The Commons is widely considered one of the most secure and well-managed spots in the city for the holidays. Unlike the open residential streets where the stray bullet incidents occurred, organized events in DHA Phase 6 and 8 have been under very strict security protocols this Eid, especially following the heavy storm earlier in the week.
